Screaming Confession #4

I love Glee.

Yeah, you read that right.  I freakin' love Glee!

I'm still a manly man, I love sports, action movies,  and naked women.  I leave my socks on the floor, the toilet seat up, and my dirty dishes on the counter.  But yes, I still love Glee.

It kind of happened by accident, and of course, for the noblest of reasons.

My son, who hopes to one day become a famous actor (but what he really wants to do is direct - no joke), was starring in a play last summer.  Of course, that play was Glee.   So, TC and I took the afternoon off and went to watch his performance.

At one point early in the play, TC exclaimed, "Oh my God, he's Finn!", to which I replied, "Is that good?".  Finn, as I would find out, is the main character on the show.

The production was pieced together with scenes from several different episodes of the show.  Over and over TC kept saying, "Oh I've seen that episode".

As an aside, it was a proud moment for a Father seeing his son up on stage entertaining millions, errrr, I mean hundreds.....ish of theater goers.

But naturally I was curious.  I wanted to see who this Finn was, and I wanted to see some of the scenes that my son was portraying on stage.

So, TC and I rented season 1 of Glee.  I was somewhat enjoying the first episode, but when they performed Don't Stop Believing at the end of the episode, I was hooked!  One measly episode in, and I officially became a "Gleek".

TC and I plowed through the entire first season in less than a week.  And we've continued to watch the second season.

For any men out there that may be scoffing at this Screaming Confession, I have two words for you, Santana and Brittany.  Oh, and Sue Sylvester is a frickin' riot!!

Screaming Confession #3

I live with my Mom.  There, I said it.  Yes, I'm 38 years old, and I live with my Mom.  But, it's not as bad as it sounds.  Ok, maybe it is, but not really.  Uhhhhh, just, read on.......

When my beautiful-ex-bride and I separated in 2003 (and I use the term "beautiful" with my tongue firmly planted in my cheek), I moved into an apartment near her house so I could be close to my kids.  It wasn't a great apartment, but it was affordable - a small 2-bedroom unit on the top floor of a four floor walk up which was a pain in the ass when I did my grocery shopping.

After rent, utilities, gas, insurance, and child support was payed, there was very little left over every month.  And by "very little" I actually mean "nothing" was left over!  I lived that way for years.  I never went out much, and dating was problematic as I rarely had money.  Any woman I did date usually had to pay (sorry DA).  But, this was the life of a single Dad who had chosen not to "shack up" with someone just to make his financial life easier (I'm a wee bit of an idealist and believe that type of move should be done for love, not money).

I could have gotten a roommate (which would have meant getting a bigger place), but I had two small kids and a teenage daughter - how much of a background check can you do to ensure that the person living in your house can be trusted around the three people who mean the most to you?

Then, 2 years ago, my Mother, who was in a relationship that was breaking down, suggested she move into my apartment with me.  Say what?!??  Move into my wee apartment?!??  Something told me that wasn't going to work.

However, I did believe that she was on to something.  I mean, if I was going to live with anybody, my Mom seemed like the perfect person.  I knew I could trust her with my kids (and I knew that they would love the idea as they adore their Gramma), we get along great, and financially it would be a lot better for both of us.

So, together we found a very spacious townhouse, and made it our own.  And it's worked beautifully!  Not only has it been better for both her and I, but my kids have reaped the benefits as well.

We've been able to do things that I never could have done had I maintained my autonomy living in my apartment.  We've been to concerts, Canada's Wonderland, Great Wolf Lodge, Blue Jay games, and taken several day trips - not to mention being able to eat out from time to time or even go to the movies more often.

Yeah, the dating thing is a wee bit tricky - I traded in being broke all the time for the stigma of "living at home in Mommy's basement".  And honestly, it used to concern me.  That is until I read an awesome quote in Randy Pausch's book The Last Lecture.  To paraphrase that quote, what kind of woman would be attracted to a 38 year old man who lives with his Mom? - "The right one"!

I know what people think when you tell them that you live with your Mom - but maybe you need to consider that perhaps I don't live with my Mom - instead, it could be, that she lives with me!

Screaming Confession #2

In keeping with the tradition of admitting something that could be (or should be) considered embarrassing, I give you my second Screaming Confession........

I like High School Musical!! No, that's not right. Actually, I LOVE IT!!!

Yes, this 37-year old flaming heterosexual man, who loves action movies, Maxim cover girls, poker, sports and just about any other "manly-man" thing you can think of, loves High School Musical!

Say what?!?? Yeah I know. Blame my kids.

But I can't help it. As we watched High School Musical 3 last night (again), it dawned on me.....I love watching these kids dance!!

The dance numbers get bigger and better with each movie - although I will say that I was wee bit disappointed with the story in the third installment of the franchise. But then again, are we looking for a great story or just killer songs??

And speaking of killer songs, my absolute favourite High School Musical tune has got to be Can I Have This Dance (although Everyday from HSM2 is a very very close 2nd). Yes, it's a little sappy, and yes I should know better. But dammit, every now and then my inner-romantic just screams for attention! It's a Meanie thing.

So there you have it! Another confession off my chest.......I feel much better now.

So what's your favourite High School Musical Song??

Screaming Confession #1

From time to time on this blog I will come clean about the things in my life that I love, or do, or want, or want to do, or have done, or think about. Things that some lesser people might be afraid to admit. I call it, a 'Screaming Confession'.

So, for my inaugural confession, right here on this very blog, I am officially declaring my love for the American Idol Season 8 coronation song. That's right, I absolutely can't get enough of the song 'No Boundaries'!

I know the coronation songs are usually fairly lame - Taylor Hick's Do I Make You Proud comes to mind. Even David Cook (who pretty much turned everything to gold) couldn't save the gawd awful Time of my Life.

But No Boundaries seems to be universally hated drawing the ire of just about anyone who listens to it (read some of the comments folks are making about it here and here). Even Kris Allen has dropped the song from his set list on the American Idol Live Tour!

However, I can't drop the song from the setlist on my iPod and I am more than man enough to admit it! I think Adam Lambert's version is much better than Kris Allen's, but honestly, I love both!

Let me know what you think!
